Worldwide Plastic Pollution Solutions

This week, I read an article titled “Trump administration launches project to keep plastic waste out of oceans”, Which is an article that focuses on plastic pollution and how we can defeat this problem. The main idea of this article is that we need to stop polluting the world and try to help the world by joining the movement of stopping plastic pollution created from either our gov’t or other countries. One idea that I found interesting was that China was actually trying to help the plastic pollution problem by buying millions of tons of trash/plastic from other countries and remaking it into raw materials. I thought this was interesting because China is pretty much the main manufacturer of literally anything so when I heard that they were trying to help the plastic epidemic I was very surprised. This fact made me wonder how many other countries are doing this to try helping the plastic pollution problem, so i looked up some more information about this idea. On the website ¨...

Environment issues

This week, I read 2 articles about two very different topics. The first one I read about was titled “Turkeys in your neighborhood”, which is an article that focuses on (you guessed it) Turkeys living in neighborhoods. The second article was titled “An environmental movement for times of war too”. This is an article that focuses on the Geneva Convention, Oil farms, and environmental destruction started by man. The main idea of the first article is that the reason why turkeys are invading our cities and suburbs is due to the fact we’re over logging, and hunting less when we need to hunt more to keep population down. One idea that I found interesting was that because we are expanding and cutting down trees, the growing turkey population has nowhere to go besides for in our backyards. I thought this was interesting because I feel like a VERY easy solution to this problem is to have more people shoot turkeys to regulate the population. The main idea of the second article is that th...

Plastic Pollution in the World

Image
This week, I watched three TED talks, which is a presentation/video that focuses on current world issues such as climate change, wars, or even coral reefs. However, the TED talk I'm focused on talks about plastic pollution. The main idea of these three TED talks were to reduce the overall human footprint on our wildlife from either cutting down on fertilizer which can create “dead zones”, or trying to reduce plastic waste emitted into the wild. One idea that I found interesting was raising the overall price of plastic by a quarter of a cent to make it an item of value. I thought this was interesting because this could potentially decrease plastic waste in the world because now, people can actually profit off of picking up plastic waste. I agree with this idea because it can truly help with the pollution issue. This can have a beneficial snowball effect because one of the largest ailments to wildlife is plastic pollution. One piece of evidence that supports my view comes fr...

Environmental Problems: Blog on ABC news

Global Warming, these are two words we hear in the news so frequently it’s almost like it’s every day. However, no matter how annoyingly frequent this issue occurs, it poses quite a large problem for us and the Earth. As we continue to grow and manufacture items to benefit ourselves, we are doing the complete opposite to the Earth. By benefiting ourselves by using factories, we are harming the Earth.  In the Article “ What you can do to help prevent climate change, according to experts ” published on the ABC website, it says “ since the Industrial Revolution, more than 555 gigatons of carbon have been emitted into the atmosphere, Smerdon said, adding that scientists have determined a "climate budget" of another 100 to 150 gigatons that can be released before the Earth begins to warm more than 1.5 degrees Celsius -- when we will experience more extreme weather patterns, such as severe heat waves.”. These numbers hold pretty large importance to me and also hopefully everybod...
