Environmental Problems: Blog on ABC news

Global Warming, these are two words we hear in the news so frequently it’s almost like it’s every day. However, no matter how annoyingly frequent this issue occurs, it poses quite a large problem for us and the Earth. As we continue to grow and manufacture items to benefit ourselves, we are doing the complete opposite to the Earth. By benefiting ourselves by using factories, we are harming the Earth.
In the Article “What you can do to help prevent climate change, according to experts” published on the ABC website, it says “since the Industrial Revolution, more than 555 gigatons of carbon have been emitted into the atmosphere, Smerdon said, adding that scientists have determined a "climate budget" of another 100 to 150 gigatons that can be released before the Earth begins to warm more than 1.5 degrees Celsius -- when we will experience more extreme weather patterns, such as severe heat waves.”. These numbers hold pretty large importance to me and also hopefully everybody else as well. This is due to the fact that this immense increase in carbon can completely wipe out humans and probably most life on Earth due to erratic weather patterns that are most likely waiting to happen in the near future. This is unless we actually do something about it and try to actually help the environment and not the economy.
The article continues to say “The Trump administration, for instance, has rolled back 85 environmental protections since 2017, including several on drilling and emissions”. Now, it’s difficult to create change or even to help out something when the government isn’t even remotely trying to help solve this arising problem. This is the problem I feel like in today’s age, too many people are focusing on how to benefit themselves rather than if this benefits anybody else. In this case the answer is no, well maybe for the middle men who distribute the factory goods the answer is “yes” but for the most part the answer is no. This is the case especially for the atmosphere or anywhere where factories dump the waste of their products.
This article also gets a direct quote from the President about his decisions to take away these environment helping acts. This is what the President had to say  “administration has made it a top priority to ensure that America has among the very cleanest air and cleanest water on the planet" and that he is "revising the past administration’s misguided regulations to better protect the environment and to protect our American workers.". Now I like the idea about helping American workers and making America better but nowhere in this direct quote does it say that administration has made it top priority to help the environment in other countries as well or even just helping the environment in general.
All in all, I think that we need to make it top priority everywhere to help the environment at all costs because if we keep going how we’re going, Earth (which includes America) won’t last very long.

  1. Vincent, good overview of the article and some of the issues it addressed. You discuss the President's decisions. Are there any specific actions he's taken that you find especially concerning?

  2. How Much carbon would have to be in the air until we can live anymore?

    1. Well, Scientists haven't figured that out yet from what I understood in this article but what I can tell you is that we're getting pretty close to that limit and if we continue on this path of carbon pollution, things will only become worse.

  5. You're absolutely correct this does pose a huge problem for our earth, and also different kinds of life on earth. I like how you added facts to your writing, it really grabs the readers attention as it is a serious topic that isn't really getting better, if anything it's getting worse.
