Worldwide Plastic Pollution Solutions



This week, I read an article titled “Trump administration launches project to keep plastic waste out of oceans”, Which is an article that focuses on plastic pollution and how we can defeat this problem.

The main idea of this article is that we need to stop polluting the world and try to help the world by joining the movement of stopping plastic pollution created from either our gov’t or other countries.

One idea that I found interesting was that China was actually trying to help the plastic pollution problem by buying millions of tons of trash/plastic from other countries and remaking it into raw materials. I thought this was interesting because China is pretty much the main manufacturer of literally anything so when I heard that they were trying to help the plastic epidemic I was very surprised.

This fact made me wonder how many other countries are doing this to try helping the plastic pollution problem, so i looked up some more information about this idea.

On the website ¨Shipping plastic waste to poor countries just got harder ̈ from National geographic, I found more information about this whole buying plastic business. One piece of information that I found was that this whole plastic trading business is a $200 billion dollar market that over 180 countries participate in. This information supported the information in the original article.

This helps support my original article on how Trump's campaign is trying to help the movement of decreasing plastic pollution because dozens of countries are trying to do the same. This shows that plastic pollution is affecting everybody all over the world and how we all need to come together to try to decrease if not completely diminish the plastic pollution crisis.

The article (National) states ¨European Union is the world’s largest exporter of plastic waste, U.S. exports are the largest for a single country ̈. This means that we, as the US, are leading the effort as a single country of recycling plastic pollution. Whenever a country exports plastic waste, they ship that waste to third world countries where they have plants that recycle that plastic and make it into raw material that can later be used to create more goods.

All in all, I believe that we as a global community need to come together and create solutions on how to solve this very evident problem of plastic pollution. Maybe the global leaders need to create much larger and more effective plants to help recycle the plastic instead of leaving it up to the third world countries to do it for us.

    What is it, specifically, that the Trump administration has proposed to help with plastic pollution?

    I'm also a little confused about this idea of exporting plastic waste. Is that actually recycling it?

    Also, you never revised your final in-text citation. In case you wanted to go back and put it in. : )

      Hi Mrs.LaClair,
      The Trump Administration has tried to push companies to use more biodegradable plastics or plastics that won't be as "harmful" as the normal plastics used. They have also tried to create regulations that would have repercussions to people/companies that create plastic waste.

      And well yes, because when they export the plastics it gets sent to certain plants (in poorer countries whose main source of income comes from this trade) that uses the plastic to create raw materials from that plastic where the plastic can be reused into other creations.

    We as humans don't think many nothing through before we do them like did we ever think of a way to dispose of plastic safely... no and now its a huge problem in environment.

    Plastic pollution is absolutely hurting people around the world, and not many people see that clearly, looking at in a big picture perspective, its ruining many things around the world. People keep polluting the earth each day whether they know it or not, but it keeps piling up and if we don't do anything then what's going to happen?

This week, I watched three TED talks, which is a presentation/video that focuses on current world issues such as climate change, wars, or even coral reefs. However, the TED talk I'm focused on talks about plastic pollution. The main idea of these three TED talks were to reduce the overall human footprint on our wildlife from either cutting down on fertilizer which can create “dead zones”, or trying to reduce plastic waste emitted into the wild. Environment issues

This week, I read 2 articles about two very different topics. The first one I read about was titled “Turkeys in your neighborhood”, which is an article that focuses on (you guessed it) Turkeys living in neighborhoods. The second article was titled “An environmental movement for times of war too”. This is an article that focuses on the Geneva Convention, Oil farms, and environmental destruction started by man. The main idea of the first article is that the reason why turkeys are invading our cities and suburbs is due to the fact we’re over logging, and hunting less when we need to hunt more to keep population down. One idea that I found interesting was that because we are expanding and cutting down trees, the growing turkey population has nowhere to go besides for in our backyards.
